India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow weather alerts for several states as the southwest monsoon continues to bring widespread rainfall across the country.

Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in parts of north, west, central and northeastern India over the next few days, increasing the risk of waterlogging, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.

States including Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive intense rainfall, while Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan may experience thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to heavy showers. Local authorities have been advised to remain on alert in flood-prone districts.

The IMD has urged residents in affected areas to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain, monitor official weather updates and follow advisories issued by local administrations.

Commuters in major cities could face traffic congestion and disruptions due to waterlogging and reduced visibility.
With the monsoon remaining active across much of the country, weather officials expect rainfall activity to continue over the coming days.

Disaster response teams have been placed on standby in several regions as authorities prepare for possible flooding and landslide incidents.
