The Indian government has clarified that it has no official role in former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s proposed virtual address from New Delhi, emphasising that the event is being organised by a private media entity and is not associated with the Government of India. The

The clarification came after Bangladesh sought New Delhi’s position on the programme, citing concerns over its potential diplomatic implications.

Speaking on Tuesday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the event scheduled for August 5 is neither government-sponsored nor endorsed by India. He added that any views expressed during the programme would be those of the organisers and participants, not the official position of the Indian government.

The development has drawn attention in Bangladesh, where authorities have asked India to clarify its stance. Dhaka has also warned local media against broadcasting or publishing Hasina’s proposed address, citing legal restrictions imposed after her removal from office. Hasina has been living in India since leaving Bangladesh following the 2024 political upheaval and continues to remain a central figure in the country’s political discourse.

India’s latest statement appears aimed at preventing any misunderstanding over the event and maintaining a clear distinction between government policy and privately organised activities. The

The clarification comes as New Delhi and Dhaka continue efforts to preserve stable bilateral ties despite political sensitivities surrounding Bangladesh’s internal developments
