China Braces for Fresh Flooding as Heavy Rain Forces Mass Evacuations

China has intensified emergency response efforts after days of torrential rain and the remnants of Typhoon Noul triggered severe flooding across several provinces, forcing hundreds of thousands of residents to evacuate.

Authorities warned that more heavy rainfall is expected in the coming days, increasing the risk of flash floods, landslides and overflowing rivers.

Emergency rescue teams have been deployed across Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan, Hubei, Henan and Jiangxi, where rising water levels have inundated roads, damaged homes and disrupted transportation. Local officials are closely monitoring rivers, reservoirs and dams as rescue crews continue evacuating residents from flood-hit communities.

The extreme weather has also raised concerns over fresh landslides in mountainous regions. Authorities have urged people living in vulnerable areas to move to safer locations, while emergency shelters have been opened to accommodate displaced families.

Meteorologists say the combination of seasonal monsoon moisture and the weakening typhoon system is likely to bring persistent rainfall across southern and central China.

Officials have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and follow evacuation orders as emergency crews work to minimise the impact of the disaster.

The latest flooding is another reminder of the increasingly frequent extreme weather events affecting China, where heavy rainfall has repeatedly caused widespread damage and forced large-scale evacuations during the summer months.
