Bihar to Withdraw Cases Against NEET Protesters, Release Those Detained

The Bihar government has announced that it will withdraw all FIRs and legal proceedings against people who participated in protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination.

The decision also includes the release of those detained during the demonstrations, with no further legal action to be taken in cases registered before the notified deadline.

The move comes after widespread protests by students demanding accountability over alleged paper leaks and examination irregularities. Several demonstrations were held across Bihar, with some turning violent and resulting in clashes with police.

The announcement follows the Centre’s introduction of amendments to strengthen the anti-paper leak law, proposing stricter punishments and faster investigations into organised examination fraud.

The withdrawal of cases is being seen as an attempt to ease tensions while broader reforms to the public examination system are debated.
