The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for several parts of the country as the southwest monsoon remains active. States including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Jammu & Kashmir are likely to witness intense rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next 24 hours.

According to the IMD, a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and associated weather systems are driving the widespread rainfall. Some regions, particularly Odisha, could experience extremely heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flooding, waterlogging and landslides.

Hill states have also been advised to remain alert due to the possibility of flash floods.

The weather office has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas, follow local advisories and stay updated on official forecasts. Commuters may face traffic disruptions and delays in several cities due to persistent rain.
