Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s flood and heavy rainfall situation remained under control on Wednesday, but more than 13.5 lakh people across 10 districts have been affected since August 13, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre.
The latest government report said 13,50,306 people have been affected across 91 blocks, 604 Gram Panchayats and 1,895 villages between August 13 and August 26.
While the overall situation is currently stable, the administration is keeping a close watch on Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts, where the situation continues to require attention.
The flooding and heavy rainfall have affected several parts of the state, with reports of waterlogging, rising river levels, breaches and disruption to communication in some areas.
Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and relief and restoration work is continuing in the affected areas.
The government has also said there is no shortage of relief materials and that the administration is prepared to provide assistance wherever it is required.
The latest rainfall data shows that Odisha received an average of 3.2 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending August 26. Bamra block in Sambalpur recorded the highest rainfall during that period, at 49 mm.
The impact of the flooding has been particularly visible in several low-lying areas, where residents have had to deal with waterlogged roads, affected homes and disruptions to normal life.
Although water levels in several major rivers have started to fall, some villages remain affected by floodwater, and rescue and relief teams continue to work in vulnerable areas.
The situation is being watched closely because further rainfall could slow the recovery process in places where floodwater has not yet receded.
For people living in the affected districts, the immediate concern remains the return of normal life safe roads, access to essential services and the gradual withdrawal of floodwater from homes and villages.
The state administration has said it will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary steps as conditions change.
