Russia launched another wave of drone attacks on the Kyiv region on Friday, marking the second consecutive day of heavy aerial strikes and leaving homes, apartment buildings and warehouses damaged.
At least one person was killed in the latest attack outside Kyiv, according to Ukrainian officials. Fourteen warehouse facilities, 16 homes and three apartment buildings were also damaged.
The attacks began as residents were already dealing with the effects of a major Russian assault the previous day. Air-raid warnings continued across the capital, with explosions and the sound of air-defence systems reported during the morning.
For people living in and around Kyiv, the repeated attacks have brought another period of uncertainty. The strikes have not only affected residential areas but have also hit warehouses and distribution facilities that play an important role in the movement of food, consumer goods and other supplies.
One of the companies affected was Nova Poshta, Ukraine’s largest private courier company. The company said Russian attacks destroyed sorting centres near Kyiv and in the northern city of Sumy.
The damage to logistics infrastructure is becoming an important part of the latest escalation. Ukraine’s agriculture minister said recent Russian air attacks had destroyed around 90% of retailers’ food logistics, highlighting the wider effect the strikes could have on the country’s supply system.
The attacks are also putting further pressure on Ukraine’s air-defence network.
Ukrainian officials said their forces intercepted a large number of incoming drones and missiles during the recent attacks, but some weapons still reached their targets.
The latest strikes come as Russia and Ukraine continue their long-running war with no clear end to the fighting.
Russia says it is targeting military and strategic infrastructure. Ukraine, however, says the repeated attacks are increasingly hitting civilian areas and infrastructure that ordinary people depend on.
The consequences are visible beyond the immediate damage.
In parts of Ukraine, repeated attacks on energy and logistics facilities have raised concerns about supplies and living conditions as the country moves towards winter. In Kherson, officials have warned residents about possible prolonged power and heating problems after critical infrastructure was damaged.
Ukraine has also continued carrying out long-range drone attacks inside Russia, including strikes on oil and industrial facilities. Those attacks have contributed to growing pressure on Russia’s fuel supply, with domestic gasoline production falling sharply in recent weeks.
The exchange of attacks shows how the conflict is increasingly extending beyond the battlefield.
For residents of Kyiv, however, the immediate concern is much closer to home: staying safe when another air-raid warning sounds.
The latest attacks have again forced people into shelters and disrupted normal life in the capital and surrounding areas.
As both sides continue to rely heavily on drones and long-range weapons, the latest strikes offer little sign that the intensity of the air war is easing.
